today..i've decided to pen an editorial abt birds..well..canteen birds at least. see..the common birds in the SA cafe are the crows, the blackbirds with the yellow beaks (are they mynahs? not too sure..for now..they'll be the BBYB..hahah), and the pigeons. if you've taken the time to look at the activity these birds participate in (believe..it isn't just eat, shit, fly..), you'll see a natural hierarchy. the crows are the kings..in this case..and the BBYB are the little minions (quite cute). pigeons? they're the silly ones will little purpose...in my opinion. of course..in this piece..i'm writing primarily abt the birds in the SA cafe..of which i had the honour of observing (hahah).
firstly..the crows clearly oversee everything..and they get the most food. a chicken with the most amt of meat on the bone is quickly grabbed by the crow...who then perches itself on higher grounds..nibbling the meat and watching it's inferior counterparts. the BBYB..on the other hand..are the ones nibbling off plates of unfinished food...causing a great ruckus when the plates un-stack themselves and fall in a heap in the collection basins. aft a rain..the BBYB can be seen scouring the field for fat juicy worms...hands up, anyone who has seen a crow do something like that? haha..i have personally never seen a crow in the field..digging for worms. is it too dignified to look for it's own food? or maybe it just doesn't eat worms..(which i doubt..unless..of course, worms are insufficient to satiate the crows..then you can just eat more worms right?)
ok..now...we come to the pigeons. in my opinion..pigeons are the silliest of birds (in the SA cafe at least). have you seen them fly? i swear one day..one of the pigeons will get a good wallop for flying into someone's head! and...the only reason (i believe) i've never seen a pigeon fall over is cos they have extremely low CGs..look at their rotund bellies!!! and..doesn't pigeon faeces cause some nuerological disorder? now tell me why i shld be nice to them!?!
that aside..i read in 'Life of Pi' that a hornbill died of shock when some evil being took a hammer and broke the poor bird's pretty beak. this goes to show that Man are indeed the most dangerous animals ard..despite our being civilised.
